Each registered member will be issued a valid barcode membership card. Borrowing privileges will be extended to holders of Library Membership cards only. New readers should present themselves with a membership application form available in the circulation desk, or they may download the form from the library portal for receiving a new card.
To borrow the library material, one must register himself / herself with the library by following necessary formalities. Borrowing privileges will vary depending on the status of the users. Following are the details regarding the borrowing facility given to different types of library members.

TNPES University Library maintains a huge collection of text and reference books on various subjects. At present, this library holds 7964 books, which fulfils the dayy-today information requirements of these university faculties, research scholars, and students. As per the rules of the library, text books available in the stack section (ground floor) are allowed for issue on loan to borrowers. Remaining collections are meant only for reference within the library premises.
Book(s) may be renewed for a further period of 14 days provided the book(s) is/are not under reservation. Renewal can be executed by production of the book(s) on the issue counter for the locally placed users. Distantly placed users may renew the book(s) by telephone or email by mentioning the correct information about the book(s).
The renewal application should reach the Librarian not later than three days but not more than six clear days before the date on which the book(s) are due. If another reader has applied for the book(s), the library staff shall inform the member to that effect and the member shall return the book(s) on the due date.
Not more than two consecutive renewals are allowed for the same book(s) without its production on the issue counter for inspection.
The Members should return the borrowed books within the stipulated date specified in the due date slip. The Loan period for different membership categories is specified below:

All the members are allowed to reserve their required book which is under circulation. The procedure for reserving the book is given below
The first reminder will be sent immediately after the due date, the second will sent after 14 days of the first reminder. If the book(s) is/are not returned within 14 days of the second reminder date by production of book(s) on the counter, action will be taken to recover the book(s) as per University rules.
If a book is not returned by the due date, an overdue charge will be imposed on members, including students and research scholars, as outlined below.

Overdue charges will be applied in accordance with the general overdue charge collection procedure. Defaulters must pay the fine in cash to the circulation desk-in-charge. A receipt will be issued immediately upon payment.
As per the instructions received from the Registrar of TNPESU, starting from 15th September 2025, overdue charges must be paid exclusively through the online mode using the QR code. Collection of overdue charges in cash will no longer be accepted.
University faculty and staff are exempt from overdue charges for the entire period beyond the due date.
If a borrower has lost a book, the following should be done immediately: it should be intimated in writing to the Librarian stating the reasons for the loss. A new copy or the latest edition may be replaced for the lost book(s). The above two steps should be taken within 3 months.
N.B During the loss period, his/her due will be arrested from the date of his/her written complaint/intimation. If he/she is not able to return the book(s), he/she has to pay the prevailing cost of the book(s) plus 100% of the book cost as Library service charge with the overdue charges if any.
All the registered members have to clear all kinds of pending library dues against their account and produce the prescribed No Dues Certificate at the Circulation Desk for obtaining the Library Clearance Certificate.
Unless otherwise No Due Certificate will be issued to the members once all the Library dues are cleared by the members. And he/she has to surrender the library membership card to receive the No Due Certificate.
The circulation incharge has to certify that the members have returned all the borrowed resources from the university library; upon that, the Deputy Librarian will sign the 'No Due Certificate'. Once the certificate is ready, it will be issued to the individual concerned in the circulation desk.
