Know Our Library


TNPESU University Library was established in 2007. Until 2017, the library operated in temporary facilities within the administrative and academic blocks. In 2018, the library was relocated to a new two-story building with a total carpet area of 6,772 sq. ft. (629.11 sq. m), situated on the western side of the university campus. Internally, the library is divided into the following sections: Circulation, Technical Processing, Reading Hall, e-Library, Periodicals, Stacks, and Thesis sections. The central university library holds an indispensable position at Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University, supporting teaching, research, and development activities. It is a vibrant department on campus, providing resources in a user-friendly environment that facilitates learning, knowledge advancement, and the discovery of new insights across all academic programs offered by the university.

"The mission of this University Library is to facilitate the creation of new knowledge through the acquisition, organization, and dissemination of knowledge resources, as well as by providing value-added services to the university community".

Authority

The University Library shall be located on the main campus and will be overseen by a University Librarian, who reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor in accordance with Chapter VII (15) of the University Statutes.

Library Committee

TThe University Library Committee was established by the Vice-Chancellor of TNPESU. The committee members include the Vice-Chancellor as Chairperson, one Syndicate member, three faculty members nominated by the Vice-Chancellor representing undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs, the Deputy Librarian as Secretary, and one external University Librarian as a member.

  1. The Library Committee meet once in every quarter to review library affairs.
  2. TThe Library Committee allocates funds for the purchase of books and journals for all departments.
  3. The minutes of meeting shall be recorded and be circulated to all members.
  4. The Vice-Chancellor can recommend a replacement for any member who withdraws from the Library Committee. No members shall serve on the Committee for more than two consecutive terms.
  5. The Library Committee shall be reconstituted once in every three years.
Functions of the Library Committee

The main functions of the library committee are:

  1. To evaluate the department wise book and journals purchase and allocate the budget accordingly.
  2. To advise the management on policy matters related to the development of the library.
  3. To review the requirements of the new programs introduced and advise management on financial assistance.
